Faced with a market scale of hundreds of billions, companies related to the VR/AR industry chain are ushering in a stage of accelerated deployment. Recently, the display panel industry leader BOE has made new progress in the layout of the AR/VR industry. According to reports, BOE has obtained the AR/VR contact lens patent authorization. According to public information, BOE has obtained the patent authorization of "AR/VR Contact Lenses, Manufacturing Methods and Electronic Equipment", with the announcement number CN109633910B.


The data shows that contact lenses include: far eye film, near eye film, and an intermediate layer. The intermediate layer includes a capacitive sensor and a signal converter; among them, the capacitive sensor is used to sense the change in capacitance at a predetermined position detected during eye movement. It is output to the signal converter and sent out after being converted into a radio wave signal. The biggest feature of this glasses is that it can alleviate the pressure brought by the frame.
The biggest problem currently existing in VR glasses is that it brings pain points such as pressure, delay, and dizziness to users. In terms of VR dizziness, the main reason is that the resolution of the display is too low, which causes the picture to be blurred, and the 3D picture that the user is watching is caused by processing. In order to solve this problem, the increase in resolution becomes an important issue. In 2020, HUAWEI VR Glass will achieve a resolution of 3200×1600 for both eyes, and the resolution of devices with Qualcomm XR chips will be increased to 4K/5K. Today, BOE’s new patent can be said to solve another major problem of VR glasses and greatly improve the user experience.
It is worth noting that the patent application was filed in January 2019, and the applicant also included Beijing BOE Display Technology Co., Ltd. It can be found that BOE's technical layout in the VR field has been advancing. As early as 2016, it had launched an AR display and UHD AR/VR display, both of 2.8 inches, which were 4 times the pixels of the iPhone 6 Plus at that time. So far, BOE has mastered relevant technologies in the AR/VR field. In September of this year, BOE’s display products in the fields of VR and AR have begun to ship, including VR/AR display modules and system solutions.
After the meta-universe concept became popular, major manufacturers have stepped up, and Luo Yonghao, who has been out of the technology circle for a long time, also announced his entry into the meta-universe.
VR technology is considered to be the best "entry" to the meta universe, and VR glasses are also considered to be an important device to realize the meta universe. VR headsets have also ushered in the inflection point of the C-end market. Under the trend of technological iteration and upgrade, PC VR will move towards a more versatile VR all-in-one machine.
But on the other hand, the meta-universe is currently only at the conceptual stage. Compared with VR, the meta-universe presents the virtual world more three-dimensionally. For VR glasses as the entrance, it is necessary to break through technical issues such as dizziness and oppression before entering the meta-universe in order to get closer to the "meta-universe", and such a meta-universe will not be synonymous with VR.
